Junior Accountant

Position Purpose

The purpose of the Accountant role in our accounting firm is to provide comprehensive financial expertise and support to our clients. Our Accountants are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, analyzing financial data, preparing financial statements, and providing valuable insights and recommendations to clients for informed decision-making. The expertise of our Accountants will contribute to the success of our clients’ businesses by ensuring compliance with accounting regulations, optimizing financial performance, and fostering long-term financial stability. As an intern in the Accountant role, through your dedication and meticulous attention to detail, you will play a crucial role in helping our clients achieve their financial goals and drive overall growth and success.

Position Summary

Our Accountants play a vital role in providing exceptional financial services to our diverse client base. With a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail, our Accountants manage financial records, perform complex accounting tasks, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Collaborating with a team of professionals, our Accountants contribute to the success of our clients by delivering insightful financial analysis, preparing financial statements, and providing strategic recommendations. As in Junior Accountant you will provide critical support to the Accountants to perform these duties.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

A description of the duties and responsibilities assigned to the position; also referred to as the essential functions:

  • Assist in client management and engagement related to accounting matters. 
  • Compilation of financial statements of various types of entities.
  • Perform various tax calculations and address verifications and audits.
  • Engage with SARS, as and when required.
  • Compile and maintain accurate accounting records.
  • Independent review of financial statements of various types of entities.
  • Assist in a wide range of accounting and advisory services.

Position Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Trains, provides work direction, and problem-solving assistance for Accounting Intern.

Membership and Accreditations:

  • SAIPA completed articles beneficial.

Qualifications:

  • Matric with mid to high grades in mathematics and accounting.
  • Certificate or Diploma in accounting.
  • Completed Certificate or Completed Diploma in accounting.
  • Completed or enrolled for BAcc or equivalent degree.

Experience:

  • At least one year accounting experience in an accounting practice environment.
  • At least one year bookkeeping experience in an accounting practice environment is beneficial.

Software:

  • Office product suite.
  • Accounting Software – Xero.
  • Financial Statement Software – Draftworx
  • Document Management Software – Dext, other platforms.
  • Practice Management Software.
  • SARS systems.
  • Payroll software – SimplePay.
